Roberto Montano

Roberto “Beto” Montaño ***Servant Leader ***

Whether it be through military service, public service or financial service, it has always been Roberto’s mission to help strengthen and advocate for those in need. He has built a proud record of impact and advocacy for communities throughout the Chicagoland area.

As an Army Medic, Roberto (then, Staff Sergeant Montaño) helped ensure American soldiers returned home safely, healthy and strong. For distinguished excellence in the performance of his duties, Roberto was promoted five times in eight years.

When he returned from the Army, Roberto served as an aide in the 4th Congressional District and on Capitol Hill, where he worked on the Veterans Affairs and the Financial Services Committees. He was recruited to serve as Chief-of-Staff for his Alderman, the then President Pro-Tempore of the City Council. He was appointed to Chicago’s Advisory Council on Latino Affairs, by the Honorable Richard M. Daley, Mayor. More recently, Roberto has continued giving back by helping develop a small business incubator for the City Colleges of Chicago.

Beyond the private sector, where he consults with families and small businesses on building generational wealth through real estate, Roberto is very much a community man. In fact, he recently earned the prestigious Chicago Association of Realtors Community Impact award. As a founding member of the Mexican Cultural Committee, he helps organize cultural programing throughout the year. He is also co-founder and now Vice-President emeritus of the J-Def Peace Project, which works with low-to-moderate income youth to create murals throughout the city.

Roberto has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Roosevelt ‘10), a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (NEIU ‘05), a second Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (NEIU ‘01), and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (Army ’93). Roberto has years of practical experience, working as a surgical nurse, both in the military and as a civilian. He is especially grateful for his experience as a surgical nurse in the operating rooms at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he routinely helped heal friends and neighbors affected by gun violence. He was an ambassadorial scholar to Japan with Rotary International. Roberto has also travelled to China, India, Russia, Peru, Bolivia, and much of Western Europe. During his free time, Roberto enjoys reading, hiking, karaoke, thrift stores, home-cooking, jiu-jitsu, and studying public policy.
